Into the Trollhättan Canal
Into the Trollhättan Canal

The day starts calmly at 05.00 in the morning where we motor across Vänern in the direction of the Trollhättan channel.

Starting in open sea, before the trail winds through narrow straits between stakes among lots of small islands, before it becomes open "sea" again.

At the start of the Trollhättan Canal there are several bridges we have to wait for, as well as a lock. It is something completely different from what we are used to, as the locks are enormously large and deep. The Trollhättan Canal should actually be able to take ships up to 285 feet long, 36 feet wide and you can go 27 meters up and 4.7 meters down.

Everything is going well until we get to the 4 locks at Trollhättan, and the thruster stops working! It gets a little stressful, but luckily we are alone in the lock so it's fine.

We are tired when we arrive at Lilla Edet, and choose to lay down there. Little space, but free at the inside. Winds 10 m/s at the cast, tight and we have to turn hard without thrusters. It is also shallow, which means that we get stuck in the mud when we are about to dock. Fortunately, there is a nice Danish sailor on the pier, who helps us safely into place.

Once there, we'll take a trip into town for pizza.

So we just have to hope that they don't regulate the water level through the night, so we can continue tomorrow morning.

Hello,

Thank you for stopping by!

Hi, our names are Ida and Anders.

This is the story of how we, with completely different backgrounds and experiences from sea life, work together towards our great goal.

This page tries to collect our experiences at sea as a family. From the humble beginnings of renting a boat in Croatia, our first own boat, Step by Step, to our new boat, Vue Mer II.

The goal is for the family to embark on a sailing trip on the seven seas within a few years.
